I was thinking about places in Lawrenceville. EClips lounge comes to mind, but I stopped there for a very quick beer once and had not time. I don't think they had a TV and it looked kind of cool. There has to be others in that area, but I am in my 40's and maybe too old. lol

The only reason i say this is because unless there is a sporting event on I never even notice a tv at a bar... If you are there with friends aren't you paying attention to each other not Seinfield? I mean and unless it's a sports bar there is usually one tv up in the corner that nobody can hear or barely even see. I don't really think of any bars as TV centric except sports bars. I almost feel like you're aversion to the television is so strong that it's presense has more of an effect on you than anyone else... IE you're the one who is obsessed with the tv not others.

The only scenerio I can think of which might match what you are saying is if you go to some local neighborhood dive bar that has the same 6 old men in it every night and they all watch jeopardy together. Which is there perogative.

It's not just around here - even that ultimate sanctuary of the companionable pint, the Irish pub, is now likely to have a few TVs blaring in the corners.

But then, ever since they banned smoking, Ireland's pubs haven't been quite the same anyway.

Yeah, but even places like Brillobox have screens where they show Ed Wood movies or vintage commercials or blaxploitation flicks. Ironically, of course.

The Church doesn't seem TV-focused. I remember a TV in there somewhere but I think it's not really over the center of the bar, so if you were sitting at the bar counter or somewhere towards the front of the building in the bar you wouldn't notice. I say this because I was there with a large group and I sure didn't notice anything about the TV while we were there, except that I remember noticing that a TV existed in the place. I didn't hear any TV sound. Hell, the place is so loud anyway it would have to be cranked to hear it, and it wasn't. I don't typically want to watch TV either but I find that most of the time when I'm in such places at off times the TV sound is not even on. The TV visual is not generally a distraction.

I think in a large enough place (like North Country, hm, haven't been but should go sometime) a TV-free area might be possible, but in a small bar how are you not going to have one? It's basically expected by almost everyone, so you're losing more business by not having a TV vs having one. That said, they *could* turn it off when there's nothing on, but think about how many people have the TV on non-stop when they're at home anyway? Same thing here. Face it man, those of us who don't watch much TV are a tiny minority....

Another place to try is Cappy's in Shadyside. I don't remember if it has a tv or not but the place is so small that you are forced to talk to people around you. When I lived in Shadyside it was always my favorite place. A close second was the Mardi Gras.

You could try Park Brugge, but it's more of a restaurant feel and not open real late.

I haven't been to Shadow in quite a while. I know they wouldn't have a dumb TV going. Park Brugge is a good place we go and have a drink and wine and we enjoy it very much. Never heard of Brillobox. Have to look that up. Thanks.

Never been to Cappy's, but have seen it there. Not sure why I haven't stopped in there? Been to Docs quite often, but I don't remember if there is a TV? It has been a while.
