I think you are giving too much credence to silly magazine rankings and ratings of cities (which are often prone to bias, IMO). The only way to judge a city is to experience it for yourself! Downtown St. Louis is every bit as vibrant as downtown Pittsburgh, dare I say moreso. St. Louis also has a charm that is hard to describe. I think it has something to do with the Mississippi River and being an old river town, like Pittsburgh. It has the density and historic architecture of an eastern city, but doesn't feel like an eastern city. It just has a sort of southern charm, even though it's not southern. You definitely should go there -- I won't say St. Louis is a better city than Pittsburgh, but it's certainly an equal in my opinion.

When Pittsburgh Today, the regional benchmarking project based at the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Social and Urban Research, recently measured 2002 arts attendance versus sports attendance, the arts won the match-up hands down. It was reported that more than 53 percent of Southwestern Pennsylvania residents attended an arts event that year versus 36.2 percent who attended sporting events. In the same year, the percentage of folks participating in the arts totaled 67.8 percent versus 39.4 percent for sports.

The skyline is way prettier and more impressive than Philly's and getting more impressive with the new bank tower in the next few years. Pittsburgh hands down!
I'm sorry, but I and most people can't take your posts about Philly seriously if they know anything about your post history. Almost every single post you make is a derogatory remark about Philly. I agree that Pittsburgh is underrated, but to call Pittsburgh more urban than Philly is foolish.

I probably will be dead before downtown is hopping at night. There are too many great places to go with free parking. Shadyside, South Side (if you know where to park) and of course the countless fun suburbs. Pittsburgh is dead at night on most nights. Sure there is the odd night that people get all excited about. You know when they had the silly gay march, pirate game and the art's festival all at the same time everyone was thinking that is what downtown could be. Yeah, whatever. It is usually dead. That was a great night even though everyone was starving, because there was no food down there. Go down there tonight.... DEAD!

Sure if is fun to think downtown Pittsburgh can hang with Chicago, but it can't. Lets enjoy our little towns around the city and not worry about trying to make this place something it isn't. Even off beat places like Donnies or Pegasus couldn't cut it downtown. Might as well call it a day.

ForYourLungsOnly, I totally agree with you that you shouldn't take my words seriously. Just go to Philly and Pittsburgh and be the judge yourself. Eyes don't lie. Pittsburgh downtown is more complete and more established than Philly's Center City.

Ok what do you mean by more established and complete...you going to need to provide more details of substance on that one.

Interestingly, this forum, and thread, are full of people that have been called "Pittsburgh cheerleaders" and the like, and it appears that none of us familiar with Philly are willing to agree that Downtown Pittsburgh has Center City beat.

That's hardly fair - I think the serious gays should have a march too.
