This. They're so cramped that I don't even know where they'll store the liquor bottles.

They should buy out La Gondola next door and expand!

I think that is right, but I also think Downtown is ultimately going to have extreme convenience as one of its selling points. I don't think you need a giant supermarket Downtown, but something a little better than the existing drugstores and convenience stores would be good.

Absolutely agree. That or expand upstairs.

You could easily live in neighborhoods that have a grocery store and actually be further from it than you'd be downtown, I'm thinking of places like Lawrenceville and the Southside, which aren't exactly auto-centric neighborhoods, either.
The new full service Shop N Save is under construction in the Hill District as well.

Something similar to the IGA in Oakland might be able to work in downtown itself. It's especially intriguing that a grocery store on the 2nd floor of a building appears to be doing well, which opens up a lot more potential locations downtown I would think.

Heck if they want to attract anyone from outside the city no one will come there to hang out and leave at 8:00, unless they are looking to do a family type thing, but even that would be tough. You get into the city after work by 7:00 and you have an hour to enjoy the show.

This place COULD hop. From what I read, that is a lunchtime fun thing and a very limited after work thing for people that work in the city and have a quick drink and head home to go out. I recall there used to be more fun stuff down there with lots of young people and port-o-potties everywhere etc. It was a blast, but it was over 10 years ago. Maybe it wasn't every week, but I thought it was.
Have you even considered that there are multiple events going on at the same time throughout the city? The casino is also having an outdoor concert at the same time. The baseball game will be starting drawing away another large crowd. There is no point having the event go on late at night if all of the business are closed anyway.

Yes, M squared. That was it. Now that was a party. Not sure what happened, but I guess they didn't want people downtown late.

That could succeed downtown, but I don't see a full line 40,000 square foot supermarket making it.

Just not enough customers, and few from out of downtown itself would really want to go to the store because of parking issues. Full line supermarkets require sizable parking lots for folks to load up their cars with their items and also require a big enough population to support that size of store.
