Why does this topic even exist? Everybody knows that Pittsburgh is a culinary wasteland.

I'm going to suggest Gnutella was being sarcastic.

Has Primanti Bros. ever had to close any of their restaurants? From what I can tell, they haven't. They now have three locations in Florida, and they've even expanded north to Grove City.

I'll entertain the thought of Primanti Bros. possibly being "overrated" once one or more of their restaurants closes due to lack of business.

I still can't figure out the fascination of cole slaw and fries on a sandwich. Yuck. On the side please....

I just had visitors in from out of town the other weekend, and of course we had to go to Primanti's because they'd seen it on Man vs. Food or something. I don't think Primanti's is gross, but I just don't get the appeal, other than it being a Pittsburgh thing. I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Thing is it's not even the Burgh choice of "quick bites" like a Cheesesteak is to Philadelphia or a slice of Pizza is to NYC....That title belongs to the Fish Sandwich.

Just because they do a lot of business they are not overrated? Really? What you're describing is that it's a successful business. That doesn't preclude it being overrated.

People like going to a lot of food places where it's a novelty (as in this case) or convenience or whatever the draw is other than the food quality itself. It's a novelty, and that alone still draws some out of town people to go there. It holds a certain familiar appeal for locals too. But would I recommend it as a must-do for a visitor? Heck no.

It's one thing to say Primanti's is popular. Clearly that is true. It's quite another to say that it's a paragon of worthy food, even worthy bar food. It is what it is, but that doesn't mean some people won't find it to be overrated. It doesn't take it being unsuccessful to make it overrated.
