Right now I am doing research on suburban communities and neighborhoods that meet the criteria I've I need if I am going to relocate.

Is there any kind of online publication that shows where the "downtown" areas of each Pittsburgh city neighborhood? I don't need this information for the suburban communities because I can usually find the downtown area by locating City Hall. But with the city neighborhoods it becomes a challenge because I don't know of any single identifying structure, business or government entity that will be found in the central business district of each neighborhood.

Any ideas?

One way is to go to Google maps satellite view - the neighborhoods of Pittsburgh are listed on that view. If you zoom into each neighborhood, you can often immediately discern the business districts from the larger non residential buildings often with flat roofs. I tried Brookline and it was very obvious. Greenfield was a bit trickier but with some study you can see the business district in the upper right corner on Greenfield Ave. (There is another on Murray). I guess this really only works for the larger business districts. Don't think you would be able to find the Point Breeze one at Reynolds and Hastings! Maybe someone else has a better source - you can always ask us here for individual neighborhoods.

It can become a bit muddy sometimes. Like with Shadyside, the initial reaction is to say Walnut, but you've got a decent section of Ellsworth with businesses/restaurants, too. And outside the city, places like Mt Lebanon have the Washington Rd stretch, but also that subsection over at Beverley Rd.
