I live in the Foster elementary school neighborhood. I love it. There is a newer section that is a little further away, but the older section has houses that range from $1M to $150k. I live in the older part. There are some rental apts. that feed into Foster and there may be some houses to rent here too. Foster Elem. is a smaller school than Washington or Jefferson or Hoover. That is a plus because of the size, but it may be a little harder to meet people because it may seem like everyone knows each other--that happened to me. Figure on a year for ANYWHERE you move to get completely settled. I also think the younger your children are, the easier it is--mine were a wee bit older. Good luck!

Oh, also, personal opinion? I love the Mellon Middle School area more than the Jefferson Middle area. Thought the kids and parents were a little nicer and also the income level is a teensy bit lower. While in high school, my kids said the wilder parties were in Jefferson area. Don't let that sway you too much, I think these things tend to ebb and flow. I was on PTA for a number of years and saw both sides of that coin.
