Jon. This is the best one yet. I'm amazed at the outstanding architecture that Pittsburgh has in some of its neighborhoods.

It is the last row-house standing of what used to be a very affluent residential section on that part of Ridge Avenue (west of Allegheny Ave.).

There used to be many great mansions along this stretch, many moons ago! This is the only house left west of Allegheny Ave. You can still see some of the retaining walls in my pictures from the grounds of the grand old homes (no longer standing).

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words!

If you could see some of what was allowed to deteriorate, and then be razed on the North Side, it would break your heart.

I know. I think the greatest architecture of the North Side has probably already been lost.

Love the pictures, but I have to say the music was killing me. I mentally rescored it with some ragtime to keep myself from slipping into a deep depression.

LOL, oh Brian. Well, I guess not everyone can appreciate the music of John Barry. Maybe I should have used one of his James Bond themes, instead. But this reminded me of the music from The Valley of Decision, a big, lush, sweeping, melancholy orchestra theme.

Here's a shot of the corner of Ridge Ave and Allegheny Ave from the fifties. That last house on Ridge is just about dead center in this picture in a row of ten or so similar houses. Most of the left half of this photo was plowed under for Rt. 65 soon after this. The bulldozers were busy in this part of town, at most only two or three houses in this view are still standing. Weirdly one old mansion at the far right center of this picture is still there, half hidden behind the McDonalds on Allegheny.
