Castlebrook Development to build apartment complex on Uptown Pittsburgh parking lot - Pittsburgh Business Times

Quote:
Dave Laffey, director of projects for Castlebrook, said the company is pursuing the project because of anticipated demand from people who want to live closer to Downtown and its mix of amenities, whether it’s retiring empty-nesters or young graduate students and twenty-somethings. He added that Uptown is well-positioned for new residential development.
“We feel that Uptown is an up-and-coming area,” said Laffey, adding the company is working to diversify into apartment development after its traditional retail development line slowed with the economy.
Quote:
The project is far from alone in residential development in Uptown. In total, more than 170 apartment units are in the works for the central part of Uptown, which is close to both UPMC Mercy and Duquesne University, as well as within walking distance of the Consol Energy Center and the rest of Downtown.
Castlebrook’s project is a short walk from the 110,000-square-foot former Fifth Avenue High School, an historic Gothic-style building Edgewood-based Impakt Development is converting into a 65-unit apartment building, a project with a development cost of $11 million. Neighboring that project, the nonprofit Action Housing Inc. is working to redevelop a former bakery property into 42 units of workforce housing to be made available at affordable rents.

I was wondering what work they were doing on the Fifth Avenue High School. Saving it from the wrecking ball is a win no matter what they would ultimately convert it into.
