I'm looking for a mechanic in the Pleasant Hills area that can replace a water pump quickly (within a day or two) and at a resonable price. I'd prefer being close to Pleasant Hills since I have a friend that works nearby and can drive me home. I'm expecting to have to leave it over night. But, if you know of a place in the South Hills that is close to the T or a bus stop that can get me back downtown I'd appreciate that suggestion too. The main thing is timing. So many mechanics have already said that they are booked for a week or longer and they will have to take off my timing belt to get to my water pump, which can take 4-6 hrs minimum. Thanks for your help.

Years ago I took one of my cars to Paul's at their old location. Current location is on Library Rd, not far from T looks like (not sure if walkable though, but I bet someone could ride you there). Not sure if you checked with them yet. I don't know any current info except what they say, but could be okay. Paul's Motor Car Service, Auto & Truck Service in Pittsburgh,

I know it's tough to get that kind of service on short notice. It is common in many modern cars to have a timing belt-driven water pump. This means you might as well have the belt replaced (even if you did that fairly recently) while they have it apart. The big cost of that job is in the labor; the belt is only, eh, maybe 50 bucks or so? I'm sure that varies by car, but still. For my car they recommended and I went ahead with a package service that was the timing belt, water pump and other belts, not needed until 105k miles. Surprisingly, the dealer (Acura) had what seemed to me to be a competitive price on that package, back then. I'm coming up on another round of that in a year or so! Yow.

I take my car to Bill's Texaco on Old Clariton for everything from inspections/emmissions to brake replacement. Luckily, I've never had to have major work done on my car but I've been happy with their work.

My dad also takes all his vehicles there and has for years.
