Im planning on visiting late Oct to early November. Ive been debating relocating and would like to know what are the must see places and things to do. Im a 22 year old single male. Obviously when you relocate you're not always going to the "attractions" so cool or interesting neighborhoods, and pittsburgh itself is more or less what I'm interested in. Thanks

i think the steelers are hosting the patriots october 30th..try to score a ticket to that if you want to see pittsburghers in all our glory.

at 22 you will deifnitely want to visit the southside (unless you are a recovering alcoholic), maybe visit oakland and the strip. if you are neighborhood searching different story of course.

Just some ideas:

Walk around downtown and get lunch in Market Square. Maybe take a free tour of the landmark Courthouse and Jail.

Stay at the William Penn Hotel, our beautiful grand hotel from when Pittsburgh was the steel capital of the world.

Explore the Strip District on a Saturday morning / afternoon and eat at Pamela's or Primanti's.

Walk down East Carson street in the South Side and explore the shops and the beautiful architecture. Maybe get coffee at the quirky Beehive.

Check out the Andy Warhol museum or Aviary on the North Side, and while you are there drive through the beautiful historic neighborhoods of Allegheny West and the Mexican War Streets.

Maybe see a classic movie at the Regent Square Theater or Hollywood Theater in Dormont.

Take the incline to Mt. Washington and check out the views of the city from the Grandview Ave. overlooks.

The thing about Pittsburgh is that many of our "touristy" neighborhoods, sites, and attractions are also utilized on a very regular basis by we residents as well. For example, our "Little Italy", Bloomfield, is a functioning neighborhood. Ditto Lawrenceville, an emerging arts/cultural area noted for its rowhomes. The Strip District, which many tourists enjoy for its weekend markets and vendors, is patronized by those of us who just want to grab some cheese at Penn Mac, some pierogis at S&D Polish Deli, or a scrambled egg at DeLuca's or Pamela's. My partner and I took his out-of-town parents to the National Aviary in the North Side on Saturday, and we were surrounded by people wearing Steelers apparel. The ZombieFest, which I believe attracted 4,900 participants, according to a recent news report, was probably mostly patronized by locals, even though I'm sure tourists would love that as well.

It's amazing the number of people who come to visit Pittsburgh to gawk at us for being so far behind the times (in a good way) in terms of having preserved so much of our historic architecture, possessing (generally speaking) such altruism towards our fellow (wo)man, and being enriched through dozens of unique neighborhoods where people really do still seem to look out for one another as they did "back in the good 'ole days". You can't find anything remotely like Pittsburgh back in Reston, Virginia, where I moved here from.

A good example of this is the recent movie "Love & Other Drugs". It takes places in the 1990's and was filmed here yet the only set pieces they had to change to look 90's were some of the cars. It's kinda funny if you think about it.

AA's list is a good one. If you give us an idea of what you are into, we can give more tailored suggestions.

Dont get me wrong, I like going out but Im not one who lives at the bars. I like sports, cars, outdoors, working out. I try to be classified more of a young adult vs a college student. Just trying to get a glimpse of what everyday life would be like and the options that would be available when the "honeymoon phase" is over. I currently work as a full time firefighter, so any firehouses would also be cool to check out!

The East End neighborhoods and South Side are contain the vast majority of 20-somethings both of the college and "young professional" variety. Greenfield and Squirrel Hill South might be your speed. I know there's a firehouse halfway up the hill on Winterburn Avenue in Greenfield at the very least, but there are plenty scattered about the city.

Take a ride on the T (Light Rail) Red Line to check out the Beechview neighborhood or the close-in suburbs of Mt. Lebanon and Castle Shannon. Mt. Lebanon already has an upscale vibe, but I can't help but think the other two areas are soon to be up and coming as well, especially by how close Beechview is to Downtown. I also think Beechview is very scenic because it's one of the hilliest neighborhoods I've seen to date and literally has one of the steepest streets in the world (Canton Avenue). I could only imagine how idyllic the place is in autumn.
