Does Pittsburgh have just one supplier to people that have gas heat in their homes?

The gas works like the electric. There is an incumbent supplier who supplies the distribution, but you can pick your provider for the other part of the bill, sometimes saves a little. For a small apartment this doesn't make much sense for gas or electric though; the savings will be small and there are caveats anyway to getting the best savings.

There are 3 incumbent gas suppliers in the area, Equitable, Dominion (I guess, used to be Peoples?) and Columbia, but I don't think you get Columbia anywhere in the city proper, just the other two, which varies by area. All of the city has Duquesne Light as the incumbent electricity provider.

Landlord with bills in his own name might be because the place is not properly split metered, etc. Not sure if you get to see your accurate consumption or not. I lived for a short time in a place where the gas wasn't split, was a pain.
