With so many movies now being filmed in Pittsburgh, is being an extra a lucrative way to make extra money? How do you sign up to be one? Also are there any related scams that you need to watch out for?

A lot of times they'll do casting calls with links to websites to apply/sign up on. Such as this Be In A Movie!

In addition to open calls, Nancy Mosser Casting has a huge file of people in Pittsburgh and many productions work with her to get extras.

Edit: Oh, and pay can be either state minimum wage or SAG minimum (I think the rule is they have to pay a certain number of people SAG minimum, then pay everyone else state minimum). Either way, it isn't necessarily a lot of money, and if you add in the time for casting calls it may not be a great moneymaking scheme.

here you go, a lot of the time this stuff gets listed on craigslist. that be in a movie site is good if you want to do unpaid extra work for fun but it's not a good way to get paid extra work.

Hello, We are looking for people 18-70 years old to be extras in the Paramount film, "One Shot". You have to have open availabilty between October 6th-14th (Could include the weekend). Right now, it's set to shoot on Friday, October 7th and Tuesday, October 11th but because these are exterior scenes, it is all dependent on weather so may shift which is why you have to have open availability all those dates above. This is an absolute must for Continuity reasons.
This is a big crime scene in the movie. It will shoot in the North Side. You would receive information from us on Thursday if it's definitely shooting on Friday. It will pay $7.25 per hour for the first 8 hours and time and a half after that. You should expect a 12-14 hour day. You must have reliable transportation that is not the bus. Calltimes may be earlier than buses are running.
Please call us asap to be booked if you have open availabilty between October 6-14. Let us know if you would be willing to be a driver in the scene. It would pay an additional $35. We can't use any bright red or white cars.
DO NOT RESPOND BY EMAIL. WE WILL NOT BOOK ANYONE THAT WAY. YOU MUST CALL US AT 412-621-1160 TO BE BOOKED.
THANKS!
