The lions were removed from the front of the Dollar Bank building downtown a couple years ago. They are now stored inside a different building as displays. I was wondering if they are ever going to be replaced with replicas? I think the building looks like Hell without them!

That is a cool looking building!

What's the story with why the Lions were removed?

It has been described as a building entirely composed of a doorway. It is definitely one of the more striking buildings Downtown.

Anyway, supposedly the lions are being replaced as part of a restoration project, but they are now overdue:

That's definitely one of the cooler buildings I've ever seen...

Where is that located? I wouldn't mind google mapping that and checking to see if it's as impressive through their views...

I actually have my savings in Dollar Bank, and when I bought my first house, I made it a point to make the cash withdrawal from that building. I thought it would formalize the occasion somehow. I can verify that the interior is as beautifully intact as the exterior! I definitely recommend walking inside and seeing the beautiful marble.

Cool building nontheless, for sure!

I remember the first time I stumbled upon the Dollar Bank building. It was my first time in Pittsburgh, and I was downtown with a friend. We had just gone to the gay bars on Liberty and we were trying to find our way through the maze of streets. When I saw that building, my jaw dropped. I had just seen The Valley of Decision, a movie about Pittsburgh in the 1870s (which caused me to fall in love with the city and prompted my visit), and that building seemed to capture the whole era and essence of Pittsburgh's early days.
