Indeed it does, but it's also another 10 minute walk from Station Square to PNC Tower (or more depending on weather conditions). Plus you may have to drive to the T depending on where you are. It all depends on OP's expectations on whether or not 40+ minutes is a "good commute".

Why would you walk from Station Square to PNC (unless you wanted to -- it is a nice walk in good weather)? The T goes to the Wood Street Station right next to the PNC buildings.

I'm retarded and forgot where the PNC buildings were at. Forgive me, I haven't had my coffee yet.

No problem, I'm worthless without caffeine myself. (And often with caffeine as well...)

Sorry Aqua, I just had to. After that thread on what people wear, I am just feeling silly. I mean the outfits that come to mind.

Anyway, seems we are all giving good advice on this topic. Hope the OP finds the areas suggested to their liking.

It's ok cowboy curtis. I can take a few lumps when I accidentally don't know what the Hell I'm talking about.

OP's needs are best met by Mt Lebanon.

I think Squirrel Hill would fit the bill as well - it's the safest nieghborhood in the east end.

Dormont or Mt. Lebo would work for you. Stuff to do, and you can take the T downtown.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the suggestions. REALLY. I've been reading and reading and reading on this site, and just couldn't get an accurate feel for my personal situation. My husband is a walker. He would enjoy a walk now and then, so even if the T didn't drop off right at his building, he'd be ok with that.

I think in exchange for not having to park and drive every day, we could afford more in rent, so hopefully we can find something in Mt. Lebanon (Lebo ) when we need it.

I will be honest and say that I get VERY scared when beggars or the homeless approach me. I am a very compassionate person, but I am terrified of unknown people invading my space. My crime was not by a known person, but a random person. That makes it harder in a lot of respects. You can choose who you associate with, but it's hard to keep random people out of your life unless you decide to be a hillbilly on a porch with a shotgun. I'm just not going to let that person have that much control over my life and my future.

Is there any reason to pick Mt. Lebo over Dormont? I'd read that Dormont can be sketchy in certain places, but nothing bad about Mt. Lebo.

I'd like to know that if I go for a walk I'm not going to walk into a sketch neighborhood by accident.... someone mentioned that most of the nice neighborhoods in Pittsburgh are squished between not-so-nice and so-so neighborhoods.

I am from B-town in Idaho. I don't like to allow searches to find me too easily as I'm sort of a private person now.

As for baseboard heat.... I'm not sure why I'm biased, other than I'm not used to old construction and living in it. Is it as efficient?
