Some of the pictures that have been posted are very interesting. I have never seen photos of most of them. It's even more fascinating because I have been reading a bio of a famous architect who designed buildings in the mid-west and in PA in the late 1800s to 1900s. Many of the buildings looked like they were built to last for 200 years but almost all of them have been demolished over time.

I have never gotten over the demo of the Syria Mosque. I remember when DiCesare Engler was the prominent concert promoter in the 'burg and there was a shimmering vibe in Oakland when concerts were being promoted on radio and showcased on the Syria Mosque marquee.

Yes, but it was falling apart, the limited seating made it tough to get the top-liners. I had some great memories there: Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Manhattan Transter, Three Stooges Festival, my all time fave. It just wasn't sustainable.

I'd demolish Allegheny Center and bring back the old intersection of Federal and Ohio with the Market House:

It could have evolved into a great indie rock venue, similar to the Trocadero in Philly. Although Mr. Smalls serves that purpose fairly well as it is.

Was not the Wabash Terminal empty and unused for a good 25 years at the time it burned?

Also, I wish I could see some interior pics of the North Side market house.

While not as significant as the old post office, city hall or the Wabash terminal, it would be really cool if the Richard B. Mellon mansion were still around. It was a stones throw from the current Pittsburgh Center for the Arts on Fifth Ave. Here's a link to a pic.:

The razed Wagner Hotel and other buildings catty corner from Station Square were razed 30 years ago.

This was residential development on the South Shore that people are clamoring for it to return.

Gave a real flavor to that community, that looks pretty sterile nowadays

One hopes that if TIIC hadn't torn the place down, they wouldn't have painted it to match the arts center.

That mansion was pretty intense. Some of the materials from that home were sent to New Kensington to build Mt. St. Peter Church in the late 30's and early 40's. The church has a lot to look at for a kid who spent many a mass there trying to pass the time
