Proper is pretty good.
I would NOT call it 'higher class' though... what does that even mean?

We're big fans of Seviche. Early week shows get there about 6.30 and you get happy hour and usually a seat. Gets trickier at weekends. Somona is very tasty too.

We usually go in the small bar on Nine on Nine as its more casual, same food available and usually quiet so a fall back option. Meat and Potatoes has never disappointed, but is busy - one of our faves in town.

Was in re-opened Nola Sunday after the City game and their Jambalaya and Catfish and flatbreads are top clsss. Good drinks too - happy hour until 7. Sienna next door is excellent Italian, and Grit and Grace is a kinda slightly weird Asian Fusion that I would highly recommend based on two recent visits.

There's some really good restaurants around there

Actually, we tried to go to Proper, Ten Penny and Meat and Potatoes before a show and everything was packed. We ended up at Bravo Franco. Heard great things about Grit and Grace although not sure about their seasonal offerings.
Grit and Grace is pretty awesome. Haven't made it to Proper yet but it wouldn't have a hard time being better than Tambellini's was in that spot.

OK, I admit I'm a cynical bastard when it comes to reviews being suspicious. Well, that and a few other things.

I plan on going to more shows, but can anyone recommend any good restaurants within walking distance?

And, I don't want Sbarro's if you catch my drift. A "good dinner prior to the show" type place but not crap or fastfood/pizza joints.

My vote is for Nicky's Thai Kitchen. The Best Thai food in the city!

Grit and Grace.... ugh. 5 bucks for a little side dish of kim chi that is free at Korean restaurants everywhere. On top of that ramen was $13 bucks. What kind of crack are they smoking?

Go to Golden Pig, the kim chi is free and the ramen is 5 bucks. Both are much better.

They have other dishes that are a somewhat more exotic and complex and unique - I actually forget what we had, but on two visits, I thought it was very good food and not overpriced for the quality.

But yep, it I wanted Ramen and kimchee, I'd go to Green Pepper in Sq Hill. Though I must track down the Golden Pig one day ...
