I've always been told that this house, at 325 Grandview Ave., was to be the house for The Real World back when they first considered Pittsburgh as a location. I never questioned it as it was built out to about 75% and then never finished. It'd be interesting to see if it suddenly gets finished now.

Right now, Pittsburgh's the city that's kinda-cool-in-a-niche-sense-so-it's-kinda-underground-only-it-really-isn't--IE, the sort of thing hipsters generally tend to go for.

Real World has turned into a trainwreck of drunk, slutty idiots. Mary-Ellis Bunim (co-creator, passed away in 2004) is probably turning over in her grave over what it has become.

Not the best way to highlight the city. Hope that this is a there's no such thing as bad publicity situation.

I doubt that this is true.

Also, in my entire menagerie of hipster friends, I don't think I know anyone who has watched this show for the last ~20 seasons.

No I doubt it. They probably think of the Real Word as lame. It's like Jersey Shore without the orange skin and steroids.

They could potentially be swayed. It's all about packaging/marketing.

The first few seasons of Real World could probably be considered hipsterish, since everyone had a creative-type job and ideas about things. Now it's just drunks and douchebags.

but during the first few seasons of the real world, hipsters as you think you know them didn't exist.
