Ugh, another big cut for higher ed. A 30% cut for Pitt, PSU, Temple and Lincoln. I believe PA already has the lowest state support for higher ed. PSU has the highest in-state tuition in the country with Pitt at number 2. Corbett is an extremist! Any reasonable Republican or democrat will attempt to protect education as it is of primary importance to economic growth.

I am sure Pitt and PSU can fend for themselves....I would be more worried about Temple and Lincoln.

Yep, this budget is about rewarding his friends and punishing his enemies, subject to the constraints imposed on him by the Tea-Party types, not what is best for the state.

So why don't we put a fee on Marcellus shale gas wells! He might as well just make Pitt and Penn State private at this rate.

How is cutting the budgets of Pitt and PSU not best for the state? Both of those institutions are highly successful universities and should have no problem funding themselves.

Yet there's more money for 100 more state troopers I hope the country folk are happy with what they voted in.

I have a hard time feeling bad for Pitt or PSU, any college for that matter. They're all bloated and overpriced, higher education is becoming a bubble, get out of the way when it pops.

Sometimes I think higher education at the big universities is overrated. Many times that piece of paper don't do you any good. A lot of times it's who you know and not what you know in order to get a good job anymore.
