The PG proposed a Pop Hall of Fame for Pittsburgh which would sort of be like a museum.

'Birthplace of Pop Culture' deserves its own hall of fame

Sounds crazy at first but not a bad idea. It could chronicle all the fads and pop icons.

Maybe expand the Warhol to include Pop Art in general?

Similar to that idea would be a Cartoon Art museum. In other words, a treatment of cartoons as an art worthy of display. It's not unique but not a whole lot of them either. I think Ohio State is the leading authority in cartooning.

I'd consider a Computer Museum and put it near CMU. Seems that a number of these have failed including of all places Boston. Not sure how easy or hard it would be to put it together as so much stuff is probably in a landfill. Good news is though that the stuff, if it can be found, would be cheap. But I'm sure with some creative minds and the assistance of CMU, it could be interesting. Maybe even add a history of video games... and you can play them. Pong however, I'm sure would be a bore. There was an old game "Death Race" which was controversial for its time. I think the objective was to drive a car and hit "zombies". But the zombies were about as sophisticated in appearance as a human, hence the controversy. Very tame by today's standards.

A pop culture museum would be a national draw if done right, so why not?

Certainly would make it easier to sell the "Pittsburgh, the home of Pop" idea.

A local "Pop Culture Hall of Fame" seems like something that could be part of the Heinz History Museum. The idea of a general Pop Culture Hall of Fame strikes me as muddled--pop culture includes way too much within its scope. Honestly, I hope we move away from this "birthplace of pop culture" nonsense sooner rather than later, and certainly we shouldn't invest anything like a new museum in the notion.

As noted in the article, we already have the ToonSeum.

But I'd like to see ToonSeum step it up beyond a gallery. Treat it as a serious art form taking its place beside pop and modern art.

I am all for it. Museums can feed on each other and promote Pittsburgh as an art destination. The more the merrier. Each time something like that is built, it moves us one step closer to a clean city full of the arts instead of "smokey city".

In reality how many local people go to a museum more than a couple times? Museums are considered development for tourism.

I do. I go the the Frick, the History Center, the Warhol, CMoA, and the Mattress Factory each at least once or twice a year.

Are you a school teacher accompanying groups of 7th and 8th graders?

Regular visits to the Carnegie and Buhl Planetarium were Board of Education policy when I was a kid.

Is it that much of an oddity? I don't go to our museums often, but most definitely at least once a year.
