if you could (I know the bizarre intricacies of PA law are not friendly towards referendums esp in regards to revenue), but if you could have a ballot measure that would ask residents here & in Philly if they would be willing to pay an additional X amount of dollars that would fund their mass transit systems, I fully believe it would be overwhelming voted against.
As I noted, everyone wants things but balks at actually opening their purses to fund them so it's not just a rural/urban thing.

Nor is it just a transit thing. The cost of the automobile infrastructure is very carefully split between funding sources and hidden. Nobody ever gets to vote on paying for any specific project like the Mon-Fay or something.

Right...Just like the last time this happened in the City. Remember when the voters overwhelmingly rejected the additional tax for dedicated library funding?...oh...wait...and *boom* goes that theory.

Of course, if Allegheny County could just get back the transporation tax dollars that it already pays out to the State...further revenues probably wouldn't be necessary.

Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!!! You Win!

But then Rural PA ("Takers") would balk at the mere thought of Reinvesting the same Tax-Dollars that come out from the "Maker" counties (Allegheny and SEPA) in the first place. Why what's in it for them, the Takers?

That was 25 cents.....

But if you disagree & the people of allegheny county would gladly pay to fully fund & expand It's transit system which would be substantially more then we can agree to disagree

Is there any place with actual dollar amounts of what each county contributes to Harrisburg vs what they get back from Harrisburg? Curious to see who the actual winners & losers from some actual stats.

I think that any specific proposal would be evaluated on it's own merits...I was merely pointing out that your sweeping generalization regarding a lack of willingness to impose new taxation was disproved by the most recent germane vote.

That you feel that vote is somehow an outlier since you feel it was too small of an increase begs the question, since support was overwhelming, how much greater of an increase could have been passed?

Not sure of an actual list, but it was stated several times in different Publications.. As far as Income Tax it pretty much goes

1 - Montgomery

2 - Allegheny

3 - Philadelphia

4 - Delaware

5 - Bucks

Quote:
Allegheny has about 300,000 fewer people than Philadelphia County, but we've amassed a higher aggregate personal income than the state's biggest county every year since 1989. The only county producing more taxable personal income is the state's third most populous, Montgomery, in suburban Philadelphia.

Allegheny County can't match the suburban Philadelphia counties in average income, but what we send to Harrisburg via the state sales tax is more generous. Allegheny County sent $700 million in sales taxes in the last fiscal year. Philadelphia was second, but not particularly close, with $543 million.

I agree btw that we get screwed out of what we send in revenue wise & many counties are completely socialized, but I also wouldn't be surprised if a few of the counties that aren't allegheny or Philadelphia get screwed with even more of a revenue imbalance.
I can't find any hard numbers anywhere though that lists revenue by county to prove any of this though just figured intake by county had to be available somewhere
