Washington County contains a small city called "Washington, PA". Canonsburg is north of Washington but still in Washington county. If he is working in Canonsburg you are in luck, because you can commute to Canonsburg from some of the more fun neighborhoods in Pittsburgh's South Hills area. Wash county itself is pretty sleepy and ranges from rural to very suburban.

Mt Lebanon would be my choice if I was in my 20's, renting, and had to work in Canonsburg. Commute could be more than 30 minutes though depending on where in Mt Lebanon you are. Bridgeville could also work, it's closer to Canonsburg and has a little downtown area with a few sports bars and cafes. It's easy access to the fun parts of Pittsburgh from both those places.

Don't know if I'd go so far as to call Mt. Lebanon a "fun" suburb. A handful of good restaurants, a good coffeehouse and one bar to go slumming. Relative to some neighboring suburbs sure. But "fun" for 20-somethings is L'Ville, Friendship/E. Liberty, Carson, et.al... all in the city.

I think the bigger issue here is what can they get for $800. In Mt. Lebanon, not much. They'd do better in Bridgeville, Carnegie or Scott, all with easier access to I-79 than Mt. Lebo, except for the area right around Vanadium. With what they'll save, they'll be able to afford eating in Mt. Lebo

General advice on where to live has been covered about a million times here including the good and bad of just about every area. If you want advice thats actually relevant to your particular situation find out where the job is and get back to us. Pittsburgh metro is reasonably large and from the details you did provide id guess calling the job in pittsburgh would be a bit of a stretch.

Okay, your circumstances and budget of $800 sounds like mine - view my thread about Manchester and move to North Shore!

1) No drive to downtown, your fiancee will be able to walk to work, you'll save on gas
2) You can get a job at the Casino, which is also in a walking distance from Manchester (North Shore).
3) There is a large park next to Ridge Ave, dog lovers will tell you all about it!

But yeah, it's PittsburgH.

This girl is obviously not cut out for a place like Manchester, which requires someone who is fairly tough, and has street smarts. She's looking for a suburb.
