I'm moving back to Pittsburgh and found a lovely apartment in Brighton Heights that I really like. I don't remember the address from when I went to go see it, but looking at a map I'm pretty sure it's located on or near the intersection of Davis & California (it's down the street from Tom Friday's Market & the Java House). I keep getting mixed reviews about this area of BH - anyone have any feedback? I am female and would be living by myself. Street parking didn't seem to be an issue but I am wondering about safety.

The Pittsburgh Crime Map indicates it should be an ok area.

However, I'd be more concerned over there with pollution coming up from the Alcosan facility just below as well as from upstream from chemical facilities on Neville Island- if you're sensitive to that kind of thing.

The nicer area of Brighton Heights is north of Davis Ave... The southern area has more crime, vandalized property, litter, & riff-raff than the northern part, yet I'd still consider it safe.
Here's another thread that focuses on BH & the Northside.

Assuming you are comfortable with an average city neighborhood, it's perfectly safe. There's a little Pittsburgh grit there, but nothing to be concerned about. For the most part, it's a quiet and cool part of town.

Also, Java House is run by the sweetest couple on planet earth.

Its not bad there. Main drawback (which you may have already considered) is you're just barely still in the city and if you were just a little further west in bellevue you'd pay 2% less in local income tax.
