This was posted to /r/Pitt on reddit: Mark Nordenberg should consider himself re-mocked.

'pitt' has a horrifying anti-student ethic, and is presided over by a deeply sick individual, faculty, and administration. Students are slandered to their friends and partners, deliberately misgraded, lied to in recruitment, harassed by sick profs who are relying on attorney payoffs if they are sued, slandered to employers...

Then it got done to someone who is sick. Just like Virginia Tech and Columbine. Abuse the student, and sooner or later...
Scary stuff, but hopefully it's the lead that law enforcement needs.

Complement appreciated.

In (partial) defense of those leaders trying to manage this situation, I imagine it's difficult to be reasonable and prudent when your feet are held to the flames by a fearful public demanding action.

Those affected by the situation unraveling on campus may want to get on with their lives, but they also want to feel safe (or feel that their loved ones are safe), and want justice served against the person that is the cause of all this trouble. It's clear that both goals will not be simple (or perhaps even possible) to accomplish. In the absence of easy solutions, it's not surprising that our public officials overreact or offer token solutions that create the appearance of increased safety.

It reminds me of how my high school handled the immediate aftermath of the Columbine massacre, At the behest of crazed parents demanding steps to ensure that such a tragedy couldn't happen at our school, the administration decided to ban students from wearing trench coats. It was a simple step that made the school appear to parents like it was taking charge, but stepping away from the illusion, how much protection did it really offer?

This guy just threatened the chancellors house... Rumor on campus today was that he was caught. I guess not.

The Pitt shenanigans is now national news. Here's a New York Times article on it: NYT: FBI probes college's spate of bomb threats - US news - The New York Times - msnbc.com

I don't understand why the university needs to treat these as credible threats. I cannot imagine that every threat reported to law enforcement is treated as credible.

Because if one of them was actually a bomb and people were injured they'd have a PR nightmare on their hands. Can you even imagine the parents' reactions?

But it has to end sometime. This can't go one for months or years. Police around the country do get these kind of crank calls daily, some they respond to and other they just know to ignore. Have the campus police given any indication whatsoever as to why they taking these threats seriously? When you find a note or something written on a wall that at least gives you some idea that the person making the threat was in the building. An email could be coming from the other side of the planet.

They took a person by the name of Krangle in custody today, not sure if it's related to the bomb threats or not. They took him in custody off an airplane landing in Pittsburgh.
