I have only been there a couple of times - the allowance and heavy presence of smoking put me off

I'm not a casino or gambling fan by any means, but I don't hate it. I've gone to Rivers a few times and had a blast. I also didn't really find it to be granny-heavy. There was a great mix there for people watching. Very diverse.

It is fairly youthful during the weekends.

The have non-smoking sections, but it's basically a joke. There is absolutely zero physical separation between smoking and non-smoking areas.

Yea, the whole place reeks of smoke. I don't gamble but I've been to the buffet a few times and went to a reception upstairs and just walking across the floor from the doors to the staircase made me a little sick from the cigarette haze.

I wonder what their numbers will look like from now on since the North Short Connector has made it easier to get to the casino..

My wife and I went there for a dinner meeting on a Friday night. Reeked of smoke and the dress code for the day was sweatpants and Steeler jerseys. A lot of hairballs there.

I think you're exaggerating a bit here.

Generally this is not my favorite way to raise public funds, but having committed to this course I am hopeful it does well.

Don't forget also that when Rivers first opened it only had slot machines. The legalization of table games in PA just a year or two later surely must have had a major impact. I mean, there's an entrie room dedicated solely to poker games and another to high-stakes table games.
