Being Opening Day for Pirates-- this has brough up this topic at my office and was really surprised with the responses.

Primarly , the Pirates (PNC Park) will draw a large amount of out of town patrongs. Due to the ticket price, realative close locations-- Philly and NY teams come to mind first. I would imagine the same happnes with Steelers and Gunis , but local folk do a good job rising the demand for those tickes.

I am all for the weekend (weekday) visitors, especially if PNC Park is thier look into our city. It is SOOO nice going out of town and hearing about how unexpected and great our city has become and CANNOT wait to come back.

Although, not everyone feels this is a welcomed activity.. I have not found any good reason on why not... ? What you think , all of you ??

The Pirates will never be a contender with the current owners. They aren't in it for winning, they are in it to milk. Therefore, we need to look at this as a positive when visiting team fans flood Pittsburgh. What does that mean? It means we have TOURISTS!!! OMGoodness!! Yes, Pittsburgh is getting shown off because out of town teams can come and beat up on the Pirates. It is positive! What is more important, some sports team or our beautiful city to show off!

I personally think the out of town visitors are a great welcome to our economy. I would rather have someone from NYC spend $100 in Pittsburgh rather than spend that same $100 in somewhere such as Niagara Falls ON. I also agree with you that it helps kills the perception of Pittsburgh as some sort of smoke filled industrial nightmare that is thankfully fading away very quickly. I personally feel the more the merrier

They are all welcome as far as I am concerned. And PNC Park is a truly awesome marketing tool.

Met quite a few Phillies fans during the homestand last Summer. Hey, let them spend their money here, why not?

As has been stated, the Pirates will never be winners with the current owners. And Mr. Nutting is the 10th richest owner in the bigs.

Gave up my season tickets five years ago, it sucks to be a baseball fan in this town.

Yeah, I used to enjoy baseball, but not anymore. I don't follow it at all. If it ws sold, I might get interested again, but not worth the bother anymore.

What I find interesting about this question is the Pirates are the only team I want other cities to travel to see. I want our fans to fill the stadium/arena for the Steelers and the Pens. They are the real deal and are super fun to watch. I have pride in those teams, so I don't want outsiders coming here to fill the seats. Pirates? Hope the other cities come in droves because it isn't the same thing. They are a losing team and have been breaking records year after year for being the worst team in MLB history. I think this year will be number 20 won't it? 20 under .500 seasons in a row. That record will never be broken in my lifetime. That is actually hard to do I think and the Pirates aren't even in a good division. If they were, they might not win a game. Maybe move them to the minors. It might be more fun for the baseball fans around here. Not good for the city though.
