I have been looking mostly on craigslist with not a ton of luck.

Does anybody know of any rental agencies that special is the Dormont/Greentree area?

I'm looking for a June 1st move in. 1Br $500-$600 range with heat included.

I've been checking out Craigslist for apartments too, with about the same amount of luck as you're having. :\

Im absolutely no help, but good luck in your search! I've noticed that alot of places are rent + you pay all utilities...which sucks.

I preferred that back in my apartment renting days.
That way you pay only for what you use, not the same as the family of four upstairs.
PLUS you establish credit and relationships with the utilities.

True that, Pitt Chick. But if you're living alone, it could be quite an expense for one person.

Heat included is a losing proposition for the landlord.

Agreed. Particularly when the OP wants that included in 500-600/month rent.

I have come across a few within my range including the heat but none available for 6/1.

I prefer heat included because most of the houses around Pittsburgh are very old with horrible insulation and/or windows. I rented a remodeled 3BR on Mt Washington for 2 years prior to my current apartment and we would hit $400 gas bills and $300 electric bills during the winter months and that was keeping the thermostat on 68 or lower. We did use 2 electric room heaters for 2 of the bedrooms but for paying all that the house was still freezing.

I feel landlords should offer free heat or properly update these homes so you aren't stuck with outrageous heating bills.

You have never been a landlord. Offering free heat means it will be 80 degrees all the time in the Winter.

If anyone is still looking I happen to know of an excellent building in Dormont that's about $600/mo + electric. Right across from the Potomac T stop. PM me.
