I love Tim Walters on Baum Boulevard. Honest and cheap. May not be feasible if you live in the suburbs.

North Oakland/near Pitt -- son needs his car for a summer job so I want to have a name of a shop just in case.

I've taken my vehicles out to Rudy Molnar's at Baum Blvd. & Graham St for many years and always felt I got good service for the money.

I have a soft spot for Cochran Hyundai service department (for personal reasons), but the one local guy I've used and been happy with is MJ Automotive on the corner of Brookline Blvd. and Pioneer Ave. - about 5 mins (less than 2 miles) out of the Liberty tunnel.

I was (or thought I was) burning oil and dropped my Taurus off there one morning. I came back after work and figured he'd tell me that I needed gaskets replaced or something like that. The mechanic said the filter was just loose and oil was running on to the exhaust pipe smoking. He charged me the standard oil change price (they changed the oil of course), which I thought was honest responsible and thus a sign of a mechanic I'd go back to.

You can find the Google reviews by typing the address (2600 Pioneer Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15226) into Google maps. The regional Bentley dealer is half a mile closer here in Brookline also, but just pass it up in favor of MJ's.
