yes, the 17,200 was jobs added for Illinois. The 9,100 jobs were added for Chicago proper.

Glad to see Chicago recovering some as well. I have always been interested in the city (and am likely going to visit sometime soon.) I would love to see both Chicago and Pittsburgh both make strong comebacks, along with the high speed rail linking them hopefully causing spillover growth between them

Unemployment rate is a function of jobs AND labor force population. Unlike Pittsburgh, Chicago's labor force is shrinking .... which depresses the unemployment rate.

source? i have several others that proclaim otherwise

regardless...this is not a "pittsburgh vs. chicago" thread, as that would be a silly comparison. I simply stated that improvement in Chicago's economy is a glimpse that some of the cities that were hit hard with unemployment rises over the past few years (mostly the big cities like LA, Chicago and more recently NY as evidenced by this thread) are beginning to recover.

Chicago's labor force had been declining the last couple years, but it looks like it may have started increasing again:

Edit: Brian beat me to it.

As I said..Chicago's recovery is beginning now, albeit expected

The CSA as a whole is now estimated at 9,729,825, a growth of 32,000 in a year.

I'm simply offering more hope that the big industrial cities like Pittsburgh and Chicago are growing WHERE IT COUNTS and doing it fast.
