The only thing to consider is the sky high cost of housing in San Diego. If you can afford that, I say go for it. Awesome chance to move to paradise

Do not be afraid of California. Despite all the guff people give the state and its inhabitants, most people who live there love it. I also agree with those who say it's a good idea to get away from the place one grew up, at least for a little while. It really broadens one's perspective.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I guess this is what I needed to hear.

It's a big change but I definitely think that it will be good for me to experience something new.

Moving away from Pittsburgh for a time was one of the best decisions I ever made. Living in another city exposed me to new perspectives, traditions and lifestyles and expanded my horizons greatly. Since returning, I have found that living elsewhere makes me appreciate all the little things about Pittsburgh that I never noticed before, and now I love the city more than I ever did.

I'd say go for it.

Yeah that's a really good point. If I don't like it out there, it will make me appreciate Pittsburgh more than I do now. It's tough to say goodbye to friends / family / girlfriend though although it's probably for the best

For what it is worth, I subscribe to the theory that distance is like a gust of air to the fire of relationships--it will blow some out, but the strongest relationships will burn hotter.

If you've been around Pittsburgh your whole life, I'd say go. You have so many connections in the area at this point that you can always move back, whereas you might never get the chance to get connections in California ever again...take the chance while you have it.
