Wow, that's ridiculous. Millcraft is very cash rich on their balance sheets too so it's not like all their money is tied up in projects. From the get go, (the URA's quick purchase) that whole project has reeked of severe hand greasing.

I also love further then in the article that the city is giving the Hill District Community Development Group $40,000 to pay a law firm in Miami to do a contract - apparently there's no firms in the city to do the work grrrr

Only two of the twelve largest in the country, and the only city outside of Chicago and New York to have more than one in the top twelve (Washington being the only other with one).

millcraft said it was difficult to build on top because so much of the available street frontage was needed for ingress and egress. i wouldnt hold my breath on anything good being built on top...or anything at all. this is like watching a train wreck. why would the ura be so insistent on building a garage at this location anyway? it should be an office or residential building to start. i agree with ukyank it wreaks of backroom cronyism. peduto should grow a pair and oppose it and the cuty should deny their reaquest.

Residential buildings need parking, folks that can afford an apartment in such a location almost certainly have vehicles they'd like to keep out of the rain and/or snow.

that's not really the issue. if you are building an apartment building the question is how do you accomodate potential demand from residents (ignoring the fact that one of the ways to afford an apartment downtown might be to give up your car..especially for young people). your options might be leasing spaces in nearby garages or building integrated parking. what you don't need is a massive garage that makes it difficult to build an attractive apartment building and one that dominates the street level interaction of the building. this is a 600 space garage, if it were an apartment building, it would not be a 600 space garage. or are you saying it would be? moreover, if residential customers are demanding this parking, then why does it need untold millions in subsidies? it's an unfortunate handout for politically connected cronies in an awful location (for a garage)
