Target 11: Allegheny Co. has given out 2nd most texting while... | www.wpxi.com

I am so happy to read that our area is cracking down on texting while driving. Hope they give out tons of tickets! No excuse for it.

This morning in metro Atlanta, a 23-year-old like OMG! from Alpharetta named Haley (or some permutation thereof) turned herself in to the police after causing an accident on GA 400 last month that killed a 62-year-old man. She was believed to be texting while driving, and is charged with vehicular homicide.

To be honest with you, if there's evidence that she was texting, then she better spend a long time in jail. I also believe that anybody under the age of 25 who comes from an upper-middle-class or wealthy background should be punished more severely for crimes than those who aren't so well-off-, because you'd figure that people coming from such a good background a) were taught better by their parents, and b) would realize that they have a lot more to lose. Maybe they should start losing it when they **** up.

No kidding! Sure are lots of deaths while driving doing stupid things. Our own Edgar Snyder agrees with us.

It was tragic and ironic - just days before being run over by an idiot with a cell phone, he said "glad their cracking down on the important crimes here".

I will be the first to admit I formerly texted while driving, but now I only text very seldomly (i.e. when I'm waiting at a very long red light such as Bigelow Blvd. @ Herron Avenue in Polish Hill).

People with a phone in their hand can't concentrate as well as those who don't. I have to practice defensive walking in supermarkets and malls. Our laws need to be stricter regarding these activities.

People with a burger in their mouth can't concentrate as well as those who don't.

People with kids screaming in the backseat can't concentrate as well as those who don't.

People putting on makeup and fixing their hair in the car can't concentrate as well as those who don't.

At what point are we going to stop allowing government to babysit us and take responsibility for our own actions? If someone's reckless driving hurts someone else, then they should be appropriately punished for that. But, to have officers spending valuable time giving out citations for dumb crap like texting...it's ridiculous. I saw on the news today that Bucks County has declared that they will not hire any more employees that are smokers. Scary stuff. It has gotten to do the point where I have to wonder what I'm still allowed to do, rather than what I'm not allowed to do. Those who think gov't is always the answer deserve to be deported to North Korea and live in their despotic paradise.

Reading stuff like this makes me want to throw away my car keys forever. I have sympathy for both the victim and the driver. What a terrible situation.

1. You can keep your eyes on the road eating a burger, not pressing buttons of a phone or reading a text.
2. You can keep your eyes on the road with screaming kids in the backseat of a car.
3. I agree with the makeup, but that isn't epidemic like texting is.

Take it from a cyclist, we need the laws for texting and we need enforcement.
