I'm not sure "lazy" describes the reaction you are likely to get from proposing that people stop buying wine and liquor for some indeterminate period of time.

Well, it IS laziness. It's easier to just go along with the way things are than to change one's habits for a period of time to achieve something else.

Laziness implies you in theory want to do the relevant thing, but don't want to put the effort into doing it.

Actually not wanting to do something in the first place because you would be sacrificing something you value too much is not laziness. Not buying wine and liquor wouldn't require effort, but it would require not having wine and liquor to drink, and that's why people would not leap to join a boycott.

I note all this because if you are interested in trying to motivate people to act, first you need to understand why they act the way they do.

Edit: A good illustration: "Prohibition didn't work because people were too lazy." I don't think that notion passes the laugh test.

Correct. Lazy and people can't get all that together and organize. Would be great, but never happen.

Same thought I had. I'm pretty sure the poster in question would be crossing picket lines as soon as his existing stock ran dry.

Call it apathy then. And it doesn't just involve booze. It's the baseline reason why statists are still in business decades after the death of FDR.

I'm doing my part. 90% of what I buy is from out of state.

Oh, I get it.

You just don't want to acknowledge that sometimes people value what they are getting from "the state".

People in the rural areas, especially in the middle of the state, arguably gain advantage from the system staying the same.
