On the crime rate -- just for grins, I plotted every single neighborhood. Sq Hill North has the 3rd lowest rate in the city at about 3.7/100. New Homestead comes in at 3.4 and Swisshelm Park at about 2.8.

Wow, thank you so much for your time. I will definitely check out Squirrel Hill. It will be fun to look at both neighborhoods (Squirrel and Mt. Leb) and check out the schools in person. Thanks again!

Default Mt. Lebo

If you are working/middle class and have your feet firmly planted on the ground, please reconsider Mt Lebo. I have lived here for a few years. Do not rent a home in any upper class part of Mt. Lebo if your middle class, and esp if you have kids...friendly warning!

If your middle class try to stay in the middle class areas such as Cedar Blvd and other areas where the homes are not half a mil or more...

If you can afford to buy, go for it, just be sure you can provide the right clothes etc... for your children to fit in or else they will be shunned. And being white and christian sure will help.

Sorry...we are looking forward to the day we move away from here.

Many people look at Mt Lebanon first, then they find that they will not get the house of their dreams, so settle for a house somewhere else. The problem with Mt Lebanon homes is that just about every house has 1 of the following major issues.

1. Very small Kitchen
2. On a "cut through street" where there are thousands of cars a day.
3. Little to no yard
4. No Master bath (1 bath for everyone)
5. 1 car garage
6. A 3 bedroom many times consists of 2 small bedrooms and 1 really really small one.
7. Master Suite is in the attic.

^ Oakmont is a pretty nice community that rarely gets mentioned. It's opposite the list of adversities you have for Mt.Lebo and the residents aren't snobby. It has an awful lot to offer.

At one time, Oakmont was the home to a lot of Gulf Oil Corporate types. Gulf Oil, remember them? Still a neat little town, movie theater, nice restaurants, lots of churches. Almost like Mayberry.
