I stopped by the Pirates Fest yesterday since it was free n'at. Although I did have to pay for parking, they should move that thing to Cranberry where parking is always free. It's great for the kids and the Q and A session with the Big 3 was interesting. I'm a big fan of Clint Hurdle, he's not your normal baseball only manager. Name another ballplayer that was offered an academic scholarship to Harvard. By the time I got there they discounted the grab bag by five bucks, so I sprung for it and found a really cool Clemente jersey in mine. Clean living pays off.

This was my fourth time at Pirate Fest. I always ask a question in the management Q&A. Was hoping to back trap Frank into revealing the % of gate to total revenue so I could take a better educated guess at finances, but he neatly sidestepped that.

Last year I won a Pedro signed bat. This year it was just a sock monkey.

Pirates Win Bidding For Jung-ho Kang – MLB Trade Rumors

Is he any good? Who knows but we're paying like 6M just for the right to negotiate with him.

I assume they're not counting much on signing Walker?

My first thought was as a fallback plan for 3B when/if Harrison comes crashing back to Earth.

Who knows? How does being a good player in Korea translate to MLB? I would assume not very well, but we'll see.

Oh man. If Harrison falls back to earth this guy better be better than expected. They've maintained but haven't made themselves better, yet.

Yeah, without knowing anything at all about what we could expect from this guy, I'd say we're more-or-less the same as last year.

Hope I'm wrong but I've never expected them to sign Walker. If they lose him they'll certainly be worse unless they strike a deal with this guy and he's a star from the get go.

Interesting as that will make Pedro expendable unless he miraculously gets back on track at 3rd. Perhaps lip service but Hurdle said 1st base is Pedro's job. Then again, a Pedro trade won't surprise me. I've learned not to believe much of what they say until they do it.
