i saw a feature on the tv news yesterday. this will make the former red/blue scheme that we marveled about as kids seem almost ridiculous.

it will be something to behold. think how incredible it will be to see this from the observation deck on the Steel Building's top floor, if it will ever come to fruition (which it most likely will, based on a recent PG article).

The Gulf Tower has always been one of my favorite buildings in pittsburgh.

Here are a couple cell phone pictures I snapped of the Gulf Building last week (I think Wednesday?). This must have been during the testing phase, because it was displaying all kinds of animations. Sorry for the low quality.

This is going to be very neat and will be a renewed symbol of Pittsburgh for years to come. I'm never going to be able to remember all the colors and what level is for which, but it will be great to see. Especially nice that they'll be able to customize for holidays and special events - just what they do with the Empire State Building.

Did anybody see any coverage on WTAE or WPXI-TV? Probably not, since this is sponsored by KDKA.

as an aside.....

i forgot to mention - yesterday on channel 11 news (i think), they actually mentioned that the Gulf Tower with its blue light was seen in the 1970s Led Zeppelin film "The Song Remains the Same". the movie shows pittsburgh for a few seconds, from the perspective of a car exiting the Liberty tubes, northbound.

i thought that was cool - and, how lifeless the skyline seemed.

I like it. I always like the light up there telling you the weather. Kind of historical and cool they kept it going.

Noticed the testing going on last week as well, really caught my eye. Read an article too (Gulf Tower beacon to rekindle Pittsburgh skyline - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) that outlines it pretty well. Definitely gonna be pretty sweet. I don't really notice the Gulf Tower as much as I do other buildings, however. Always thought the US Steel Tower overshadowed it too much.

Saw them testing it last Thursday night when I was driving back into the city on the parkway east. It looked great!
