Also potentially more restaurants and shops, and new schools opening.

Even though the Cultural District is pretty lively as it is, this shows it still has much more potential as its remaining vacant upper floors are developed (and added to).

Trek and the Cultural Trust are considering a combination of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments with rents initially estimated at $750 to $1,350 a month. Mr. Gatti said the rates are geared to the "moderate, middle market, real people."

Interesting definition of what counts as "moderate" pricing (not that I disagree--that is a pretty good deal for living in a major CBD).

Thats fair pricing.

I pay $1,400/mo for living right next to the Southside Works...any major city and youre paying that much and up to live downtown in their business district.

Absolutely, and while it isn't on quite the same level as the South Side or Shadyside, the Cultural District has otherwise become one of the top "neighborhoods" for bars, restaurants, and such. Toss in a walking commute (if you work Downtown), and that is a very convenient lifestyle.

If I didnt live in Southside or Shadyside, downtown (cultural district or Market Square area) would be next on my list.

Good news! It's fantastic so many moderately priced apartments are included - getting more active and responsible bodies living Downtown is a key factor to making the area more lively and attractive, will spur further development and enhance the image people have of Downtown.
