Bear spotted inside Pittsburgh Mills mall - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Quote:
Officials said the bear walked into the store shortly before 9 p.m., and shoppers and employees soon spotted the bear in the electronics department.
Maybe he was looking for a Kindle for his Bear Bones Books.

I wonder if it was actually a Brown bear, or just a little Black bear who was brown? Interesting either way, but would be really interesting if it was a Brown bear.

I'll think of him and remember that at least someone finds the Mills to be the most convenient shopping area and it's not just a bad case of urban sprawl into sparsely populated countryside. Wait...maybe he's not the best example!

Glad he was safely removed and hope he will be OK!

You know you're dealing with a dead mall when wildlife try to reclaim their habitat.

Poor thing was probably pretty scared once it got stuck inside the store. Glad they handled the situation humanely.

Gnutella,

HaHaHa... That is the funniest thing I've read on here in a long time.

I'm sure it was a black bear, they come in different shades of brown, black, and honey color. They are relatively harmless but can be a nuisance. I encounter them frequently.

It was a black bear cub according to KDKA. I also saw a photo of it outside on twitter last night, clearly a black bear from the shape and color pattern at the face.

Still pretty strange. The wildlife guy said they'd never heard of this with a bear, only deer.

There is a great picture of it on WPXI's Facebook page. Certainly is no cub.

I'm hearing and seeing all kinds of wild life being seen up and own Western PA this summer. I've seen two deer on in Frick Park this past week, when I normally don't see them until fall

Since reportedly it was a cub, I assume it was looking for a player for its Cachorro DVD.

A black bear's size can be deceiving. They aren't as large as one might expect. They are nothing like a grizzley or kodiak. They are very compact when all fours but when they get on their hind legs they are 5-6 feet. I'm sure this one was probably around 2 years old and sniffing around the dumpsters in the back of the mall when someone left a door open. Pennsylvania has wonderful habitat for various wildlife and the city is actually very wooded for an urban environment.

It was headed for a shoe store, looking for some Bear Jordans.
