Not at all what I said - you've missed the point completely.

Appreciating
fine music is for anyone who cares to.

Paying
for it takes princely patrons. Or robber barons with aspirations. Or, failing all else, state grants, if you want high culture by committee.

The PSO will perform the music of Pixar on June 21 and 22.

Pixar in Concert with the Pittsburgh Symphony presented by First Niagara - Pittsburgh | Official Ticket Source | Heinz Hall | June 21, 2013 - June 22, 2013 | Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Basically playing the respective film's music while showing clips of the Pixar film.

As I mentioned earlier, Doctor Who would be good because Murray Gold is writing some brilliant stuff for the show.

DWFO #7: Amy's Suite - YouTube

The above is based on one character (Amy) in the show. It is the latest from a group of volunteers (and presumably fans) recruited from the Internet to play their part to recreate the a portion of the show's soundtrack. They submit their performance which is later combined to form this "orchestra".

Add to that, the PSO will perform the music of Led Zeppelin on July 18.

The Music of Led Zeppelin with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra - Pittsburgh | Official Ticket Source | Heinz Hall | July 18, 2013 | Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Should be good.

Looks like Pittsburgh has a good maestro who apparently likes Pittsburgh.

Hopefully he sticks around after his contract expires. I'm not big on symphonies but I'm sure a symphony with a good reputation is a good thing.

If you haven't ever been to the symphony, you really should try to go. There's something fantastic about hearing music live, and symphonic music is no different. We are so very lucky to have a world class symphony here in Pittsburgh.

For a less-expensive, but also high-quality, alternative, I heartily recommend the Carnegie-Mellon Philharmonic. Tickets are $10, $5 for seniors, and free for all students and CMU/Pitt faculty and staff. They just did a fantastic Mahler 1, and are performing again May 2 at Carnegie Music Hall (part of the museum, not the university).

Yes to this! We are lucky to have the symphony, opera here. Most nosebleed tickets can be had for $20. Who needs to be up close anyway? A bargain.
