If you're familiar with Allegheny General Hospital, you probably know Sandusky Street as one that surrounds the hospital. Unfortunately, that's also the name of someone whose atrocities took far too long to see the light. Which makes me wonder, in conjunction with Milwaukee wanting to rename Pittsburgh Ave, should Pittsburgh rename this street, so we don't get misconstrued as supporting this guy? My gut instinct was to name it Hines Ward Street. I'd like to hear your ideas.

I think Sandusky, Ohio would probably be angry about that.

I for one am not in favor of reactionary renaming of anything. Now if it were actually named after him, that would be another story. But it's not.

Personally, I'd leave it alone since the street wasn't named to honor Jerry Sandusky.

I do find it somewhat ironic that your proposed choice would seek to elevate a football player. Have we not learned anything from the scandal about putting athletes/coaches on a pedestal?

Besides, this town already has too many streets named after Steelers and it's not particularly close to the stadium.

Renaming streets is a total PITA, and in just about every circumstance I am opposed to it. I would not rename Sandusky Street.

An old farm road near where I grew up had had the same name for over 100 years. Around 2005 a developer bought a couple acres along that road, threw up a plan of vinyl houses, and then somehow had the entire street renamed something cheesy and arbitrary like Rolling Meadows Way (the particular plot of land was not a meadow). I was infuriated.

And on the subject of arbitrary and cheesy street naming, there's a street in Cranberry named Tree Line Drive. There are no trees along it. It reminds me of "The Oaks at Mesa Vista" from that 2006 smash hit "You, Me and Dupree".

Needless to say, I prefer street names that are simple, have some historical or geographical significance, or are at least obscure/quirky. First Street, Second Street, Jane Street, North Avenue. . .

Sorry for the disjointed post. Just a pet peeve.
