According to an article I read during the summer..red light cameras in the burgh will become operational this month. Has anybody seen any? Does anybody know of any intersections where they are in use? It should be interesting to see what kind of revenue increase the city gets from our road raging pgh drivers.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I actually would like to see mobile devices that record speed and you are mailed a ticket. I want them mobile, so people won't know where they are. Would be great to get people in our region back in line.

I have definitely spotted them, but I haven't been keeping track of where.

through the grapevine - shadyside is the first place, and probably the most logical, since the cameras wont have to be fussed with to accomodate right-turn-on-red movements, of which there are none (i think) along the north-south roads (aiken, etc.).

I noticed that all of the lights around Bakery Square/Penn and Fifth/East Liberty Target have cameras on them, but I don't know if they're specifically red light cameras.

You'd think that they'd put up signs advertising them, they're not much of a deterrent if no one knows about them.

Are they meant to be a deterrent, or a revenue generator?

I would love to think they were used as a deterrent, but on the same note if drivers do not know about them, that greatly increases the cities revenues by the likely thousands of tickets they will be able to mail to each and every driver who they deem "ran a red light."

I noticed some yesterday morning on the North Shore at a light after I got off of the West End Bridge. It was near the Casino. (I am not familiar enough with that area to know the street names to name the intersection.)

Those have been there since the casino opened. I think they are more security and traffic than red light cameras.
