New to the area. I already am aware of Zoo Boo. I have a 17 mn old and I'm looking for fun activities to do as a family. Are there any hayrides that are fun?
I'm also looking for things to do Halloween weekend since we have friends coming into town but it seems most activities are the weekends before? Anyone have ideas?

TIA.

I don't know about the immediate Pittsburgh area but at Idlewild Park, there's a weekend event called Hallowboo which is a family-friendly event and contains haunted houses, rides and other stuff. It's located in Ligonier, which is about an hour southeast of Pittsburgh. The easiest way to get there would be to take the PA Turnpike and get off at Donegal then head north on 711 until you reach Route 30 in Ligonier.

I find it odd, the phrase "family friendly." Isn't everything "family friendly"?

We went out to Trax Farms yesterday. Great hay ride with a pumpkin patch to grab a pumpkin and a non scary corn maze. Huge store to shop for all sorts of goodies. Other activities and train ride just for kids.

Trax farm is great. We took our kids there last year. They are now 3.5 and 2.5. However, it does get pretty crowded so I would get there when it opens. The one unexpected "toy" was the kids all climbed all over the pumpkins that were piled up. Sorgels up north is also an option.

There also was a bunch of farm tours last year. That some buy local group organized. We went to one in Elizabeth that had a hay ride and a peacock. I know a peacock.

It wasn't bad at all yesterday. We figured if we went during a Steeler game that the crowds would be down and they were. Of course, a reminder that you're in the Pittsburgh area......someone had a boom box blaring the game on radio while standing in line for the hay ride.

I was also just made a ware of an event in my own neighborhood. It's this coming Saturday, on Reynolds Street in Point Breeze. It's at the Sterrett School across from the Frick Park Market. There will be a bonfire, and it sounds like hay rides and pony rides.

Well, you don't want to take little kids to a freaky, scary haunted house.

Do you know the approximate hours?

Seriously? I loved stuff like that when I was little. I grew out of it, probably by the time I was 10.
