Commutes from the South Hills area in general will be much longer to the East End. The Northeast suburbs are great for commuting into the East End and Oakland (Millvale, Etna, Shaler, some of Hampton, Fox Chapel, O'Hara, some of Indiana, Aspinwall). Shadyside is very convenient, and not too bad even with some Washington Blvd./Highland Park Bridge rush hour, outbound delays. You can even just take the 62nd St Bridge, a two minute drive left to the zoo, One Wild Place through the zoo, and then take Negley the rest of the way. You could even take Baker Street and go through Morningside. With no traffic, Washington Blvd is by far the fastest and I can be in East Liberty, Shadyside, Highland Park, Point Breeze, Squirrel Hill etc. in under 15 minutes.
