According to this, the death toll from Sandy is currently at least 18, and at least 7.6 million people are without power:

My parents, who live in a highly-elevated suburb of Scranton, have been without power since last night. If their power isn't restored by this evening my sister and brother-in-law are going to bring them over their portable generator to use so their food in their refrigerator and freezer doesn't spoil. My friend in Brooklyn is faring the storm rather well. I've sent out a status update on Facebook requesting that my other NYC Metro friends check in to let me know they're okay.

Looks like a nice day for a bike ride here in Pittsburgh. As usual, way overblown here. Goodness, schools here are closed and kids have nothing to do, but look at the nice weather. Funniest thing was the state stores closing at 3. Goodness are they even open today due to sunshine?

This being a "Pittsburgh" forum, I suspect he was saying it was overblown here. He is correct, our region has no issues. Looks nice out there. I was on Washington Blvd. last night at around midnight. Just a nice steady rain. No big deal.

Seriously, couldn't the LCB like, use a little judgment and allow the stores to open out here where nothing is wrong?

Oh, geez, what I am I saying? LCB and judgment in same sentence?

Goodness, how pathetic. Probably considered a paid holiday knowing how our state runs.
