Looking forward to seeing it on the Crafton Historical Society House Tour some spring in the future!
Not this coming spring, but maybe 2014?

A lot of the neighborhoods that were affordable for me in 2006 have become unaffordable for me. Crafton was still in my budget, safe, and full of great old houses. It would be nice if I happened to be getting in at the bottom of the market.

No promises, but my guess is you will do pretty well in the long run. Most importantly, though, I hope you both enjoy the house/neighborhood and otherwise feel financially comfortable, which is a good start on a happy lifestyle.

Your house looks great! I love the staircase and the newell post. Amazing woodwork and mantles. I love that it all has its original finish, too. That stuff is extremely hard to find.

From Crafton / Ingram, you can just take Steuben Street and 51 into town. No need to go through any tunnels. From McKees Rocks / Stowe, you can take 51 or cross the McKees Rocks Bridge and take 65 into town (fastest way, in my opinion). Sheraden you just take 51 into town.

I know. And the sellers had updated all the electrical and put in dual pane windows! I'm getting quotes on having the woodwork restored. Houses like this deserve to be restored to their former glory whenever possible. A house like this in San Francisco would be in the millions. I am very fortunate.

If the woodwork is still just shellac (not paint or polyurethane), shellac dissolves with denatured alcohol. Or, with a new coat of shellac. So, if the finish is cracked, and it's shellac, it's easy to fix. There is clear shellac and orange, and also a brown, I believe.

Polyurethane is pretty easy to strip off. Paint is the only thing that's a lot of work.
