Regardless of ones thoughts on Tom Cruise or the film itself, this is pretty cool for the city: Tom Cruise returning for 'Jack Reacher' premiere - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Having the premiere here is a nice gesture.
Having said that...just about everybody my husband and I have turned into Jack Reacher fans over the years has said they won't be seeing it. Tiny Tom is no Jack Reacher.

Good... less local people vying for premiere tickets!

I wonder whether Pittsburgh will stand in for Minneapolis in future Jack Reacher movies (and you know there will be future Jack Reacher movies if this one is a hit).

Myself, I'm looking forward to the Christmas Day premiere of Les Miserables at the Manor.

I don't care how bad the movies are, it's cool that people are shooting films in Pittsburgh. We need to keep this momentum going!

I wasn't familiar with the novels so I had to Google Jack Reacher and found:
Quote:
Reacher is 6' 5" tall (1.96m) with a 50-inch chest, and weighing between 210 and 250 pounds (100–115 kg). He has ice-blue eyes and dirty blond hair.
Sounds like these books are fun reads, but I can just imagine the horror of fans at a 5'7-3/4 169lb Tom Cruise playing the part. Given the character doesn't say much, it sounded perfect for Dolph Lundgren

Couldn't they find an old movie palace downtown to have the premiere at? It had to be the South Side Works Multiplex? How very Columbus. Yawn. At least it's in the city.

I wonder what films historically had Pittsburgh premieres? Valley of Decision, maybe?

So long as PA and the film bureau continue to offer the tax incentives, they will continue to shoot out of Pittsburgh. However MN is also one state that has tax incentives so they are starting to bring productions into the state. I don't think MN has as good a resource as PA does with the Pittsburgh Film Bureau so as long as the tax relief exists there's no need to change the shoot locations.

Not sure there are any movie theaters downtown any more. When I was very small, I had ballet lessons in the house where the movie of Valley of Decision was filmed with Gregory Peck and Greer Garson. I believe it's now a part of the CCAC campus.
