We've said on here many times...EL is poised to be a nationally recognized neighborhood....overshadowing even Oakland in away.

That's a welcome addition for us--Mexican is one of the more family-friendly options in our experience.

I think I ate at one in Monroeville with my friend, the King of Coupons. If so, i.e., if that was called Patron, the service was particularly good; the food was...not bad for half price. I'd definitely eat there again.

Mad Mex is just a few blocks away, but perhaps it isn't "traditional" Mexican enough to count.

I noted in the article that Shadow Lounge will be leaving and will be looking to purchase a building so to not be subject to increases in rent.

Their food is so uneven. Practically every chicken dish serves the chicken overcooked, which makes me not want to order anything more expensive. Also, it's so loud, I think of it more of a bar you can eat in. I go there three times a year, max.

That's what I meant by it not being "traditional". I see families eating there, but I wouldn't call it family-friendly in the usual sense.

In any case, it's nice to know what will be gracing the first floor of the Highland Building. It will definitely change the feel of that stretch of Highland. If the Odeon gets built, then that whole corner would be next to unrecognizable in a few years.

I've been there twice. While I understand they're trying to do something a little different -- better ingredients than your typical tacoteria, for one thing -- I'm not going back a third time.

The food is all so hot. I don't think it's me. I still like my shrimp and scallops super hot at China Palace. At Verde, the heat just makes all the food taste the same. It's a shame. I really wanted to like the place, if for no other reason than that it's so close by.
