The owner of the business & building was hanging out there during the day as of the summer but she seems a bit out of it and isn't really making any food.

She was asking a lot for the property.

I know a developer has an option agreement on it but needs a viable tenant to make it work.

east liberty place north may be a total failure as a retail destination

but at least the building has a proper entrance for its mixed-income residents

the proposed penn-highland building is not designated as mixed-income
but the building treats its residents like the help

That would be mighty stupid of Rite-Aid considering there's already a Rite-Aid at Baum & Negley; a CVS next-door to this parcel in question; and a Walgreen's in the Whole Foods complex nearby. How many drugs does East Liberty need?

Plus Target.. with a pharmacy. However, a Rite Aid there wouldn't surprise me at all.

East Liberty is a downtown area for much of the east end, a lot of people go there to shop for necessities. It isn't surprising that several drug chains would choose to set up shop in the area.

Exactly. What would be preferable there? I do the vast majority of my shopping in East Liberty, as do most of my neighbors. Surely not some sort of "yuppie" store because yuppies are scum, but also apparently not a drug store or Dollar General either.

They have already said that first floor space is supposed to be a restaurant.

Hopefully, it will be a restaurant that will be catering to the common people that shop in the East Liberty area for necessities. You have the Family Dollar and Target, as well as the various pharmacies in the area, it would be good to see just a basic restaurant to serve breakfast and lunch to the masses that come down in the area, as well as workers in the area. You do have a welfare and social security office, medical offices and other ministries which have hungry workers. I think it was a shame that Walsh's closed, they had good food although I understand there were problems there at night.

Rite Aid will not open a Rite Aid next to a Rite Aid.
