I am fascinated by all of the steps around the city and I am excited to walk them all just to say I did. But I have some questions before I start with the ones in my neighborhood.

I noticed many sets are so very close to homes and property. Do the residents there mind people like me casually hiking up and down all these steps? Do many other people do this?

I heard some sets are closed or blocked off. Well I am a safe responsible adult and I am not up to no good. are any residents REALLY going to mind a gentle traveler such as myself exploring these in their backyard? I don't mind breaking a petty law like bending under a CLOSED chain link, but I just don't want uneasy people calling the cops on me when our boys in blue can be out doing other work.

You might find this book interesting. You can get it at the library rather than paying $200. The Steps of Pittsburgh: Portrait of a City: Bob Regan, Tim Fabian: 9780971183568: Amazon.com: Books

Has anyone ever walked up or down the steps on the north side of Fifth Avenue in the Hill District?

I don't know why that book is so expensive. I bought it new for a few bucks when we moved here. It does offer some interesting history.

Pittsburgh Stairs - CommunityWalk

I've also seen a report from a few years back cataloging all the sets of steps on the South Side and their conditions, but can't seem to find it...
