If you are so inclined, please take a peek and vote at http://pawatersheds.org/2012/12/vote...-of-the-year/; the Mon is in the lead at the moment, but has some stiff competition.

I spent a fair amount of time on the Allegheny River last year, and am absolutely enchanted with the ease of getting on the water - thank you Kayak Pittsburgh, Paddle Without Pollution, and Friends of the Riverfront! The ability rent a kayak is unique to Pittsburgh; I hope that they are able to open more locations.

Just voted, thanks! Last summer Kayak Pittsburgh opened up a location at the Millvale Riverfront Park. They will be there again this year, too! Easy, free parking and direct access to the river. Can't beat it. Hard to think about paddling on a day like to today...

Yes, I took the beginner's class at the downtown location, and loved it so much that I bought a kayak, and twisted a friend's arm to go with me, and she bought her own as well! There really isn't much better than a nice paddle in the river, and we really like the convenience of the Millvale Riverfront Park (esp since we can feel guilt-free about going to the french bakery afterwards). I'm nuts enough that I've been looking for a wetsuit so that I can go out in the winter.
