May I make a special request for Allegheny County? I know this one will be more difficult but I am interested in seeing what your results would be for it
p.s. great job so far, this is interesting to read.

I'm doing Allegheny County last because a map of it looks like a pane of glass in the shape of Allegheny County with a baseball thrown right in the middle of it.

Beaver County is next.

How about Stowe Township and McKees Rocks? Can we just make it one town - it's on the same street grid.

Also, Braddock, Braddock Hills, North Braddock and Rankin. Let's just call it all Braddock. And how about Natrona Heights, Natrona, and Harrison Township? Too confusing - just call it all Natrona. Also, Chalfant and Forest Hills. Bellevue and Avalon. Crafton and Ingram.

Thanks so much, Gnutella, for taking the time to compile these lists for us! I've always loved jigsaw puzzles, and trying to fit so many little obsolete pieces into much larger and more efficient ones is great fun (or I'm just a nerd!). Granted I'm also only interested in Allegheny County because it stands to benefit the most from municipal consolidations, but it's interesting to see just how large some of these outlying areas could be. I had no idea Hempfield Township was as monstrously large as it is (gives a whole new meaning to the username "hempfield mania", although he's been AWOL as of late).

I don't see the benefit of all this map redrawing exceeding the costs.

Right now, the various local governments do cooperate with each other to provide municipal services, their police departments back each other up on calls, the school districts have growth over several municipalities.

Keeping the local governments small keeps it closer to the people.

But of course the proof is in the pudding- are the larger municipalities now around providing a better deal for their taxpayers. Are taxpayers in McKeesport getting a better deal than those in tiny Versailles or South Versailles- North Fayette taxpayers getting more value than Oakdale taxpayers- Ross residents doing better than West View folks.
